Subgroup Explanation

The subgroups on our board are a little confusing but hopefully this will clear up any confusion.

The way our current board is setup is to use the subgroups as "volumes" for different groups on the board, for instance, there is a group for Band, Praise, Choir, Wireless. If you have the choir "mixed" to what you think sounds pretty good but still aren't getting enough volume, you can raise the Red subgroup for "Choir" and it will boost the overall choir sound.

This is good practice in "mixing" sound to try and pull the band up on instrumentals or solos and the choir or wireless up on different solo parts.

Below is a picture of the subgroups for reference. Each section has two slides, they need to be moved in tandem (together).

Loop & Click Track

The choir/worship team is beginning to use quite a few loops and click tracks. Here are a few things we try to do when they are using a click track.

The signal is split left and right. The click track which is what only the band hears is on the left side and ONLY goes into the AVIOMS, no hotspots, floor monitors or recording (VERY IMPORTANT). The loop or instrumental track is on the right side and can go to the hotspots, floors, recording and mains.

To keep the click track from being heard, make sure it is out of the monitors and that all the "subgroup outputs" are not depressed. Below is a photo for reference of what the click track channel should look like on the board.

CD Track Lists

As you are hopefully aware, we are posting all the sermons online at our website and to do this we are needing to record the sermon as one track to make life easy to turn the sermon into a podcast.

We start the podcast of right at the reading of the scripture, so it is important to get the title in this process. Bro. Johns knows this and usually announces his sermon title 2 - 3 times, to give us a heads up and also to give the congregation time to find the passage. During this time, it would be good to start recording as soon as you hear him announce the scripture.

Also at altar call, it is not necessary to record the music since it has to be cut out for copyright reasons. Once he gives the altar call and the music & singers begin, you can end the CD recording and finalize.

Video Camera - Shots

I just wanted to post a few examples of videos that I would like to try and replicate the angles and shots of these churches. I know a lot of these videos are "multi-camera" shots, but we can still use them as guidelines.

Guidelines:

  • Focus in on soloists & speakers even if it crops the heads of people behind them.
  • If you notice, there is minimum headroom for a speaker. Headroom being from the top of the speakers head to the top of the video. Notice for example in the picture below. *Click on the picture to bring it to full size.

Below are a few sermon clips of three different churches to show a few variations in "headroom."
